Arizona Football: Noah Fifita named Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Week

Wildcats quarterback shines in first career start

Arizona football quarterback Noah Fifita has been named the Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Wildcats' 31-28 win over Washington State on Saturday.

Fifita, a redshirt freshman, made his first career start in place of injured starter Jayden de Laura and led the Wildcats on a crucial touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Fifita finished the game 15-of-22 passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

"Noah did a great job for us," said Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch. "He made some big plays for us and led us to a big win. We're really excited about his future."

Fifita's performance was even more impressive considering that he was playing against a Washington State defense that entered the game ranked No. 1 in the Pac-12 in scoring defense.

"I'm just trying to do my job and help the team win," said Fifita. "It was a great feeling to get my first touchdown pass and help us get the win."

With de Laura expected to miss at least another week with an injury, Fifita is expected to make his second career start this Saturday when the Wildcats host the No. 12 Utah Utes.
